Vocal Processor DOD Operating Instructions

The VoTec is a multi-effects vocal processor from DOD with an XLR input for microphones. With proper mastery of its operations, you can add many effects, including delay, reverb and distortion, to your vocals. You also can create your own effects programs by using a combination of these effects. When you learn to use the VoTec vocal processor, you can create wildly different effects with your own voice and add individuality to your recordings and performances.

Instructions

    • 1

Plug the VoTec in to switch the power on and put the unit into "Performance Mode." Adjust the "Output" control until the "Clip" LED comes on occasionally (at peak moments in volume). The "Output" dial is located above the "Bank" footswitch, on the right hand side of the unit, and the "Clip" indicator is located to the left of the dial.

Select a bank and a program that you want to apply to your vocal. There are 10 banks in total on the VoTec, and they each have three programs in them. These programs have combinations of effects active for pre-set sounds. Press the "Bank" footswitch to select your desired bank (from 0 to 9) and then use the "1," "2" and "3" footswitches to choose which program you want to activate. The LEDs beside the effects that are in use will light up. This allows you to see which components make up the sound. The effects buttons and indicators take up the upper left portion of the VoTec unit.

Press the "Effect Selector" button beside the effect you want to activate or deactivate to alter the components making up the current sound. The LED for your selected effect should light up, and the effect's number will appear on the display screen. To deactivate an effect, press its dedicated button twice. The display will read "-- --" to indicate that the effect is being bypassed. There are 10 "Effect Selector" buttons in total.

    • 4

Press the "Up" and "Down" buttons to find the desired variation on the selected effect. The "Up" and "Down" buttons are located above the "Output" knob. The display will cycle through the different versions of the same effect, denoted by the number on the display screen. You can add new effects using the "Effect Selector" buttons and change component values using the "Up" and "Down" buttons as you choose to customize your effects.

    • 5

Press the "Store" button to save your selected combination of effects. The "Store" button is located in the bottom right hand corner of the display screen. The "Store" LED will flash. Use the "Up" and "Down" buttons to selected the desired location for the current effect, and then press "Store" again to save.
