The applications of editing music include creating radio-friendly versions of explicit songs, changing the length of the song for video, extracting loops, changing the song timbre or volume and removing vocals. Developers provide free-to-use software for music and sound editing. With these free tools even a novice can create custom edits of pre-recorded songs.
