Instructions

    • 1

Attach the mount that is provided with the SM58 to a microphone stand.

    • 2

Slide the SM58 into the mount so that it is gripped securely.

    • 3

Plug one end of an XLR cable into the microphone and the other end of the cable into a microphone preamp.

    • 4

Adjust the gain of the microphone preamp to achieve the desired volume of the SM58 microphone.

    • 5

Point the Shure SM58 toward the sound source you are recording. Because of its cardioid polar pattern, the SM58 rejects sounds coming from the sides and rear of the microphone.

    • 6

Place the microphone close to the sound source to pick up a more direct and intimate sound. Because of the proximity effect, the closer you place the microphone to the sound source, the more bass frequencies it captures.

    • 7

Place the microphone farther away from the sound source to pick up a more distant and ambient sound. The farther away the microphone is from the sound source, the less bass frequencies it captures.

    • 8

Experiment with the distance of the microphone from the sound source to achieve your desired sound.
