Time-based effects are among the most commonly used. In a home studio environment, using reverb and delay will give a sense of space that may not occur naturally in a small room or through an instrument recorded directly. Mixcraft includes Acoustica reverb and delay, as well as Classic reverb and delay, with different sounds and expanded controls.
Compression and limiting run a close second to reverb for the title of most-used effects. Acoustica and Classic compressors are included for controlling the dynamic range of drums, vocals or other instruments. The Classic master limiter is also included, intended for use as a mastering limiter, giving your final tracks impact in CD and radio settings by increasing the overall track volume and punch.
For fine-tuning of individual tracks or for stereo mastering use, Mixcraft includes Acoustica and Classic EQs. The Acoustica is a 10-band graphic EQ, helpful in learning where each band sits in the audio spectrum. The Classic EQ records in stereo and allows for independent adjustment of each channel to create side-to-side effects on single instruments. Also included is the Pulltec Tube EQ simulation, a re-creation of a classic hardware equalizer noted for its warmth and flattering tone.
Mixcraft includes several versions of phasers, flangers and choruses --- classic effects used to thicken sounds and create feelings of movement, in turn adding depth to your finished tracks. Phasers introduce shifts in a sweeping filter to create comb-filtering effects. Flangers do the same but by introducing small, shifting time delays. Chorusing introduces both time and pitch shifts to create its effect.
Electric guitars favor processing that introduces distortion --- from a mild overdrive suitable for blues, to heavy, complex distortions used in hard rock and metal genres. Mixcraft includes Acoustica distortion and two different amp simulators, the Voxengo and Shred Amp simulators. Between the three, Mixcraft offers plenty of versatility in electric guitar sounds.
