How to Remove Bass From a Song in Audacity

Removing the bass track from an existing song is useful if an artist wants to experiment with their own bass track. Bass removal is also useful if a music producer wants to mix another bass track into an existing song to test how it might sound. Audacity is a program that is available online for free that will allow you to remove the bass from a song with just a bit of practice.

Instructions

    • 1

Download and install Audacity. Run the program on your computer after installation.

    • 2

Navigate to Audacity's "File" menu and then select "Open" to locate a song on your computer to work with.

    • 3

Locate the “Effect” menu and select the “Equalization” option.

    • 4

Draw a curve with the equalization tool to reduce bass. Start low and slowly meet the “0 dB line” in the center on the equalization box. The bass level should stay on the “0 dB line” after it is adjusted.
