Connect the microphone to the computer using the USB slot or computer microphone input. Click “Menu” and “System Preferences” and “Sound.” Highlight and select the microphone from the list of options. Select the audio interface name, if using.
Test the microphone by speaking into it. Make sure that there are no latency (delay) issues with the microphone during the test. Adjust the “Input” and “Output” volumes of the microphone, if desired. Close the “System Preference” window.
Position the microphone on a stand and make sure that it’s secure. The stand should have a pop-filter to greatly reduce excess breath and spit that goes into the microphone.
Open the software and create a new project by selecting the “File” menu. Open an existing file if you wish to add vocals. Move the cursor to the beginning of the song and press the “Play” button, if opening an existing file. Press the “Stop” button once you’re done previewing the file.
Press the “Record” button and talk or sing into the microphone. Stand at least 4 inches from the microphone when recording. It will cause less distortion. Press the “Stop” button when you’re done recording.
Click to see the “Track View” window. Highlight the next track and press the “Record” button. Talk or sing the exact same thing as the previously recorded track. Press the stop button when you’re done recording. Press “Mute” or “M” on the second track and press the “Play” button. Unmute the second track and “Mute” the first recorded track. Press the “Play” button to preview the second recording. Choose the recording that sounds best to you and delete the other one.
Select the “Effects” tab from the “Options” window at the top of the screen. Scroll down and select the “Compression” tab. Set the “Gain” to “4.8” and press the “Apply” button. Wait as the effect is applied. Click the “Play” button to preview the vocals.
Follow all above steps for recording additional vocals to the song.
