1. Hold the recorder correctly. The recorder is held with the left hand on top and the right hand on the bottom. Your left thumb should be placed over the hole on the back of the recorder, and your right thumb should be placed over the hole on the side. Your fingers should rest lightly over the holes on the front of the recorder.
2. Blow gently into the recorder. The amount of air you blow will determine the pitch of the note. Start by blowing gently, and then increase the amount of air you blow until you reach the desired pitch.
3. Cover and uncover the holes with your fingers. The notes of the song are played by covering and uncovering the holes with your fingers. The following chart shows which fingers to cover for each note:
