As I was going up the hill of beans
I met old Dan Tucker and he looked so darned mean.
He had a big straw hat and a big wooden spoon
And a big old tater in his pocket for food.
(Verse 2):
Well I said, "Howdy do, Mr. Tucker, how's your wife?"
He said, "She's real well, 'stead of going to bed,
She stays awake all night to play "Hide-And-Seek" with the cow
To keep from getting the milk and honey."
(Chorus):
Get out of the way for old Dan Tucker, he's too late to get his supper.
Supper's over and the dishes done
Dan Tucker come too soon, he's the hungriest one.
(Verse 3):
Well I turned around and walked back down
To watch old Dan Tucker he looked so darned brown.
He had a long beard and a crooked old hat
And a big white dog to help eat the cat.
(Chorus):
Get out of the way for old Dan Tucker, he's too late to get his supper.
Supper's over and the dishes done
Dan Tucker come too soon, he's the hungriest one.
(Verse 4):
I saw Old Dan Tucker, a-comin' down the road.
With a big pack on his back and a big load.
He had an old hat on his head and a long white beard.
And he was a-singin' a song that I never heard.
(Verse 5):
Well, I said, "Hello, Mr. Dan Tucker, where you goin'?"
He said, "I'm lookin' for the place where they're playin' bingo.
I've got enough money to keep me in bread and meat.
And I can win me some more so's I can eat sweet."
