What is the musical hairspray about?
The musical "Hairspray" is set in 1962 Baltimore and tells the story of Tracy Turnblad, a plump teenager who dreams of appearing on "The Corny Collins Show," a local TV dance program. When she finally gets her chance, she is rejected because she is not thin enough. Undeterred, Tracy rallies a group of misfit kids like herself to fight for integration and break down the social barriers that segregated America at the time. The show includes memorable songs such as "Welcome to the 60s" and "You Can't Stop the Beat" and themes of civil rights, body positivity, and self-acceptance.
