How to Replace Headphone Pads

Headphone pads are pieces of foam placed over the speakers on the headphone cup. This foam pad cushions the user’s ear from the harder speaker surface, making the headphones comfortable to wear. Lower-quality headphones use cheap pads that easily rip or deteriorate with continuous use. It is quite simple to replace the pads on a pair of headphones. The foam pad is not glued to the headphone cup, making it easy to remove and install replacement pads.

Instructions

    • 1

Grip the top edge of the foam pad on the headphone cup. The edge of the foam pad is pulled over a plastic lip.

    • 2

Pull up on the headphone pad to stretch it. The hole in the pad will now be large enough to allow you to pull the pad off the lip on the headphone cup. Remove any additional ripped pieces from the headphone cup, if needed.

    • 3

Slide the top edge of the replacement cup over the top lip on the headphone cup.

    • 4

Pull the bottom edge of the replacement cup over the lip on the opposite side of the cup.

    • 5

Adjust the headphone cap so that the entire foam pad is held in place by the lip. The lip on the headphone cup should be completely hidden under the new headphone pad. The pad is now in place.

    • 6

Repeat all of the steps to replace the other headphone pad.
