How Do I Get Tickets to the Grammy Awards?

The Grammy Awards are one of the biggest and most viewed awards shows in the world. More than 26 million people around the world watched the show in 2010. If you want to have one of the hottest seats in the house and get the chance to sit next to Taylor Swift or Kanye West, there's a few ways to score these exclusive tickets. It helps to be a member of the music industry, but it's not necessary.

Instructions

    • 1

Get involved in the recording industry. In order to receive an invitation to the Grammy Awards, you need to be nominated for an award and/or be an associate or voting member of the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. Members of the Academy include musicians, recording engineers, producers and other professionals in the recording industry. Release one of the best albums of the year or work for a company that does.

Apply to become a member of the Academy. Visit the academy's website at Grammy.com. Apply online or download an application and return it by mail. In order to qualify as an associate member, send a business card or letterhead explaining your involvement in the recording industry. In order to qualify to be a voting member, you need endorsement of two existing voting members or have a credit on at least six tracks on an album released commercially in the United States. The album must have been released for sale in between Oct. 1 and Aug. 31 of the eligibility year for the Grammy Awards you wish to attend.

Wait four to six weeks after your acceptance into the Academy to receive your membership card. Continue to pay your dues every year to remain eligible to attend the Grammy Awards. Dues are $100 a year, $180 for two years and $260 for three years.

Wait for your invitation to arrive in December. Tickets are limited and come on a first come, first served basis, so act fast. Nominees who are members of the Academy can request two complimentary tickets. Non-member nominees may request one complimentary ticket.

Scour the Internet for other methods to score a ticket if you're not nominated or a member of the academy. TV shows, record labels and radio stations sometimes hold contests and give away tickets. Extra TV offered a Grammy ticket giveaway in 2009. DoSomething.org offered all-expense paid trips and tickets to the Grammys to five grand prize winners in 2009 who came up with music-related projects that helped their community.
