Boyz II Men are a male R&B group that gained prominence in the 90s. Their signature a cappella harmonies, emotional ballads and clean image helped them achieve massive popularity. Not only were they popular based on record sales, they hold the record of being the most successful R&B group to date, as of January 2011, having sold more than 60 million albums worldwide. The group recorded most of their albums in the 1990s under the Motown Record label. Their first single to reach No. 1 was the 1992 "End of The Road," which held the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100 for an unprecedented 13 weeks, more than the previous record-holder, Elvis Presley. They went on to top themselves several times with "I'll Make Love To You" and "One Sweet Day," a duet with Mariah Carey, which spent a total of 16 weeks in the No. 1 spot. Boy II Men was made up of Nathan Morris, Michael McCary, Shawn Stockman and Wanya Morris.
Shai came to prominence in the early 90s with the release of their single, "If I Ever Fall In Love," which went to No. 2 on the U.S. charts. This group was made up of Marc Gay, Darnell Van Rensalier, Carl Martin and Garfield A. Bright. The group never duplicated the success of '"If I Ever Fall In Love."
Jodeci comprised two sets of brothers who were the direct opposite to the clean image portrayed by Boyz II Men. Their music was, more often than not, raunchy. Their name was derived from a combination of their names, Cedric and Joel Hailey, and Donald and Dalvin DeGrate. They went by the stage names K-ci and Jojo, Mr. Dalvin and Devante Swing. Their 1991 album, Forever My Lady, featured the hit single "Come and Talk to Me."
Blackstreet was a 90's R&B group founded by Teddy Riley and Thomas Taliaferro. Their debut album was Blackstreet and it had moderately successful singles like "Before I let You Go," "Booty Call" and "Joy." Their next album was released in 1996 and was a big success because it went to No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100. This was largely due to the single "No Diggity," which won the 1998 Grammy Award for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group.
