How to Breathe and Whistle While Inhaling
A whistling sound can be made by using your mouth as an instrument or by using a simple device called a whistle. The whistling sound occurs when air is forced through a small opening in your mouth. Small sound waves bounce back and forth in the small space created by your lips, mouth and tongue. When that small space is just right, the small waves form together to make to make a loud note that we identify as a whistle. Many things make whistling sounds, as air is forced through a small space. In fact, even caterpillars can whistle by blowing air out their sides in order to fend off prey.

1
Purse your lips, creating a small hole to direct air through.
-
2
Watch yourself in the mirror to see that your lips form the shape of an "O" and to see that your cheeks fall in somewhat. This will help you to watch for proper form.

3
Let your tongue partially fill that space, to allow for better direction of air. Play around with different ways of holding your tongue to find the best placement. For some, curling the tongue slightly will help.

Inhale deeply and forcefully. The more air you pull in, the more sound waves are available to bounce around and form a loud whistling noise.
