How to Conduct Praise Time

Praise time is a critical part of both individual and group worship time in the Christian faith. Praise and worship are a way to express gratitude, approval and connectedness with God. Speaking words of prayer, singing songs of thanksgiving and writing down words of affirmation are all elements that can help you conduct a time of praise for yourself, a small group or even a congregation. Customize your praise time by combining all of the elements, just two of the elements or even alternate just using a single one before your study time.

Find an appropriate place for your praise time. If your time is individual, choose a solitary place where you won't be disturbed. If your time is part of a group service, make sure the space can adequately accommodate your group without being disturbed.

Reading out loud helps connect you with the words you are reading.

Choose a favorite bible verse of praise, thanksgiving or affirmation and read it out loud.

If you can play an instrument, choose an uplifting song you can play and sing.

Select an uplifting song or two from an iPod, DVD or other musical source. Although you can just play the music and listen, it's more effective to actually sing along with the music.

Journaling can also help you organize your study or prayer time following praise.

End your praise time by recording words of gratitude and inspiration in a journal or on a note card. You're ready for a time of scriptural study or personal prayer.
