Drink tea with honey to help naturally lubricate your vocal cords. The warm tea will help you naturally warm your voice and the honey will help prevent irritation in your vocal cords.
Breathe from the diaphragm by pretending you're yawning. When you yawn, you take in a full breath of air and your stomach and sides expand. Feel the stomach and sides expand every time you take a breath in to sing.
Practice developing your tone and control by holding out a pitch that's comfortable for you to sing in the middle of your range. Don't sing too high or too low because those ranges cause vocal strain.
Relax your body when you sing. Tension in your body will prevent you from achieving a proper vocal tone. When your throat, jaw or body tenses, the air doesn't flow freely and your vocal folds are unable to vibrate.
Learn to sing in tune by singing along with recordings of your favorite songs. Start with songs that fall comfortably in the middle of your range. Avoid going too high or too low in your voice and find music that doesn't have large leaps between notes. Music in which all of the notes move step-wise without leaps will be easier to sing.
Practice singing for 15 to 20 minutes every day for the first month. Increase the practice time to 30 to 45 minutes after the first month.
