What Types of Music Does a Symphony Orchestra Play?

Symphony orchestras play various types of music within the classical music genre, such as concertos and sonatas, as well as orchestral versions of Broadway musical scores and film scores. Symphony orchestras also perform music in the jazz genre that has been composed for an orchestra, such as the music of George Gershwin or Duke Ellington.
