Realize that an ohm is a unit of electrical resistance between two points of a conductor. A volt between these two points will produce a current of one ampere.
Define ampere, or amp, as a measure of an amount of electrical charge or current between the two points.
Define voltage as the electrical potential between the two points. It can be understood as the pressure behind the current.
Understand resistance as the amount of current allowed to flow through something. High resistance allows only a little bit of current, while low resistance allows a lot of current to flow. Ohms are used to measure resistance.
Realize that ohms relate to your sound system. The fewer ohms your system has, the louder it will be. This is because the resistance is lower, meaning more current flows through the system. This increased current is commonly understood as "more amps."
Understand that subwoofers are just audio speakers, but ones that have increased capabilities. Subwoofers are better able to reproduce the full range of acoustics in the music, especially the lower ranges. Because of this, they free up your mid and treble speakers, making music sound clearer.
Realize that larger subwoofers may sound deeper than multiple smaller subwoofers. When choosing your subwoofer setup, you will hear that a greater amount of smaller subwoofers produce a punchier sound than a single large speaker, which will sound more deep and throbbing. A subwoofer sealed in a box will produce the lowest sound.
Experiment with subwoofer placement to get the best experience from your speakers. The best place to put a subwoofer is in the corner of the room, and the best place to listen to it is from the corner diagonally opposite. The worst place for a subwoofer is in the middle of the room, and a square room is the hardest room shape in which to use one.
Adjust the furniture in the room and test how the speakers sound as you are seated in different locations. Sometimes you will be sitting in a spot where you can't hear the bass line at all. This is the "null" spot and is related to how the sound waves interact with the room. By moving just a few feet, you can completely change this.
Add a second subwoofer to improve the experience for a large number of people. Place the second speaker against the wall opposite the first.
