Snorlax cannot be awoken using the flute in Pokémon Gold. To wake up Snorlax in Pokémon Gold, you need to use a Poké Flute on the sleeping Snorlax. The Poké Flute is obtained by defeating the Gym Leader of Goldenrod City, Whitney.
