What type of instruments are played in a mariachi band?

Guitarrón: A large, bass-like guitar played with a pick and the most distinct feature of a mariachi band. They have 6 string courses but are tuned in minor 4th intervals as opposed to the equal temperament tuning of the guitar or violin.

Vihuela: A type of guitar used that is smaller than a guitarrón and has a higher pitch.

Guitarra de golpe: A high pitched strumming guitar that provides the rhythmic base for the other instruments. Typically they have 6 nylon strings like a classical guitar but are tuned in perfect fifths with a capo at the 5th fret.

Guitarroncillo: A diminutive version of the guitarrón usually used when a traditional mariachi band's guitarrón is not available or as a substitute for the vihuela.

Violin: A classical stringed instrument that is also commonly played in mariachi bands, usually one or two violins are present.

Trumpet: A brass instrument that is usually paired with another trumpet to harmonize with each other.

Vihuela: A 5-string guitar also known as a "guitarron" that adds rhythm to the music.

Harp: A stringed instrument played by the pulling and strumming of its strings.

Charro Trumpet: A trumpet typically played in ranchera music.

Guitar: A 6 string instrument that is used for harmony, rhythm and some times plays the "sones".

Guitarra de golpe: A high pitched strumming guitar.
