What range of notes can a clarinet play?

The standard B♭ clarinet, the most commonly used clarinet, has a written range from low E♭3 (concert C4) to high F6. However, many clarinetists can extend the range upwards to high G6 and some exceptional players can even reach higher. The lowest written notes, to low C3 (concert A3) or B♭2 (concert G3), are available using an optional register or extension key. Additional upper registers are achieved using a variety of alternate fingerings and embouchure techniques.
