What is the difference between a violin and thorough bass?

Violin:

* String instrument with four strings tuned in perfect fifths.

* Played by plucking the strings with a bow or using the fingers.

* Can produce a wide variety of sounds, from high-pitched trills to low, resonant tones.

* Used as a solo instrument and in orchestras.

Thorough bass:

* A musical system based on the use of a single bass line over which other instrumental or vocal parts are improvised or composed.

* Developed during the Baroque era (1600-1750) and used extensively in classical music.

* The bass line is typically played on a keyboard instrument, such as the harpsichord or organ, or on a cello or bassoon.

* The other instrumental or vocal parts are improvised or composed above the bass line, creating a complex and varied texture.
