What is a Iroquois Water drum?

Iroquois Water Drum also called the Turtle drum, is a musical instrument used by the indigenous peoples of Northeastern America. It is a large, shallow bowl-shaped drum made out of wood or bark, and covered in animal hide with a liquid inside producing a "watery sound". The drum beater most often used is made out of soft hide stuffed with corn husks.

Water drums are used by many Northeastern Native American tribes in both ceremonial and social settings. The specific design and uses of the water drum vary among tribes, but it is typically an integral part of traditional music, dance, storytelling and healing rituals.
