Why did Vivaldi write so many violin concerti?

Vivaldi was a virtuoso violinist and a brilliant composer. He was also a teacher at the Ospedale della Pietà, a home for orphaned and abandoned girls in Venice.

The girls at the Ospedale were given a musical education, and many of them became accomplished musicians. Vivaldi wrote many of his violin concerti for his students to play. He also used the concerti as a way to show off his own skills as a violinist.

In addition to his concertos, Vivaldi also composed operas, sonatas, and other instrumental music. He was a prolific composer, and his music is still enjoyed by people all over the world.
