What is the snare drum also called and what gives it its sound?

The snare drum is also called the side drum.

It is a cylindrical drum that is played with two sticks. The bottom head of the drum is made of a thin plastic or metal sheet, while the top head is made of a thicker plastic or animal skin. The snare wires, which are stretched across the bottom head of the drum, give the snare drum its distinctive sound. When the snare drum is struck, the top head of the drum vibrates and causes the snare wires to buzz against the bottom head. This buzzing sound is what gives the snare drum its characteristic sound.

The snare drum is one of the most important drums in a drum kit, and it is used in a wide variety of genres of music, including rock, pop, jazz, and marching band music.
