Is it bad to clean guitar strings with alcohol?

While isopropyl alcohol is a great cleaner for almost any surface, it’s not a wise choice for cleaning guitar strings. Alcohol’s high solvent properties mean that it can damage some of the coatings and wrappings on your guitar strings.
