Who created the trombone?

While the exact inventor of the trombone is unknown, its predecessors, the sackbut and slide trumpet, appeared in the 15th century. These instruments likely evolved by adding a slide to various earlier brass instruments or possibly as an offshoot of the trumpet marine, a bowed string instrument used during the period. Over time, improvements to its design made the trombone the distinct instrument we know today.
