What characters can you play as in sonic generations?

In Sonic Generations, you can play as two versions of Sonic the Hedgehog:

* Modern Sonic: The current, faster, and more agile Sonic.

* Classic Sonic: The Sonic from the classic Mega Drive/Genesis era.

While you don't directly control other characters, there are some moments where you play as Tails and Knuckles in certain levels.

The game features a variety of other characters in the story mode, including:

* Dr. Eggman

* Amy Rose

* Shadow the Hedgehog

* Omega

* Silver the Hedgehog

* Big the Cat

However, these characters are only playable in certain parts of the story or cutscenes.
