What are the groups of musical instruments?

Chordophones: Instruments that produce sound by the vibration of strings, which may be plucked (guitar), bowed (violin), or struck (piano).

Aerophones: Instruments that produce sound by the vibration of air, either by blowing (trumpet), sucking (harmonica), or shaking (shaker).

Membranophones: Instruments that produce sound by the vibration of a membrane, such as a drumhead (drum) or a kazoo (membranophone).

Idiophones: Instruments that produce sound by the vibration of the entire instrument, such as a bell, gong, or xylophone.

Electrophones: Instruments that produce sound by the electronic amplification of sound waves, such as an electric guitar or synthesizer.
