When did the harpsichord stop being popular?

The harpsichord began to lose its popularity in the late 18th century as the pianoforte (or piano) gained prominence. The piano offered a broader range of dynamics and expressiveness, and its popularity was further enhanced by the development of the mechanical action, which made it easier to play. By the early 19th century, the harpsichord had largely been replaced by the piano in most musical contexts.
