When did the harpsichord stop being popular?

The harpsichord began to lose its popularity in the late 18th century as the pianoforte (or piano) gained prominence. The piano offered a broader range of dynamics and expressiveness, and its popularity was further enhanced by the development of the mechanical action, which made it easier to play.
