How do you tell if a banjo has tone ring by looking at it?

Look at the hooks on the underside of the pot. Usually tone ring banjos have at least 24 to 36 bracket nuts holding the tension hoop to the pot. If the banjo has a one piece flange, it most likely has a tone ring.
