What is beberek instrument?

Beberek or 'bebelik', also called zummara or al-ghouta is an ancient Turkish instrument resembling the clarinet. It is used in some of the Middle Eastern countries: Turkey, Syria, Iraq, and Armenia, and is also widely used in the Arabian Peninsula.

Beberek is a double-reed instrument with 7 or 8 holes on its front side and one on its back. It is mostly made of hard wood such as ebony, plum, or boxwood. Its reed is made of cane. Beberek is also sometimes made of metal, gold or silver. Traditionally it was played in the folk music in the cities of Mardin, Adiyaman, and Sivas.
