What is the pitch range of a bongo drum?

Bongos, as traditionally built with the smaller drum called the macho and the larger hembra drum, have ranges that are determined primarily by their sizes. Typical ranges are in the pitches of high d to g sharp below middle c for the macho, and a to e an octave below that for the hembra.
