Locate the bridge of your violin. This is the small piece of wood located between the strings and the tailpiece.
Take the rubber mute and position it on the bridge. The mute should be placed perpendicular to the strings, with the two prongs extending through the strings on either side.
Gently press down on the mute until it sits securely on the bridge. Make sure that the mute is not touching any of the strings, as this will affect the sound of the violin.
When you want to remove the mute, simply lift it off the bridge.
Rubber mutes typically come in different sizes, so it's essential to choose one that fits your violin's bridge properly. Some violinists may also adjust the position of the mute slightly to achieve the desired level of muting. It's also worth noting that rubber mutes can dampen the violin's natural tone, so they should be used judiciously during practice.
