Why would the fuse that controls radio and interior lights in a 96 Grand Am SE keep blowing out?
1. Short circuit in the radio or interior light circuit:
A short circuit occurs when two wires that should not be touching come into contact, creating a path of least resistance for electricity to flow. This can cause a fuse to blow because too much current is drawn through the circuit.
If the fuse controlling the radio and interior lights keeps blowing, the first step is to inspect the wiring for a short circuit. Look for any damaged or frayed wires, especially around the radio and light fixtures. If you find a damaged wire, it will need to be repaired or replaced.
2. Faulty radio or interior light:
If there is no short circuit, the problem could be with the radio or one of the interior lights.
To test the radio, turn it on and see if it works properly. If the radio works, turn off the engine and remove the fuse that controls the radio and interior lights. Then, turn on the engine again and check if the interior lights work. If they work, the radio is likely the cause of the problem.
3. Faulty fuse:
In rare cases, the fuse itself could be faulty.
If you have tried the above steps and the fuse still keeps blowing, try replacing the fuse with a new one of the same amperage.
4. Other electrical issues:
If none of the above solutions works, there could be another electrical issue causing the fuse to blow.
This could be a more complex problem, so it is best to take your car to a qualified mechanic for diagnosis and repair.
