What is the difference between xylophone and glockenspiel?

The xylophone and glockenspiel are both percussion instruments that consist of a series of bars that are struck with mallets.

Xylophone:

- Made of wooden bars

- Larger in size

- Lower in pitch.

Glockenspiel:

- Made of metal (most commonly steel) that are usually arranged so as to play a chromatic scale

- Typically smaller in size

- Higher in pitch: the notes are an octave higher than the xylophone

- Brighter, clearer pitch.
