What is an Alpine horn?

The alpine horn or alphorn (also alpenhorn or alphorn) is a large wooden horn about 3.6 m (11 ft 10 in) long, used by herders in the Alps and particularly associated with Switzerland. It is traditionally made of wood and has a brass bell. The alphorn is played by blowing into a wooden cup-shaped mouthpiece.
