What is a mezzo-soprano saxophone?

The mezzo-soprano saxophone is a rare instrument produced in the 1920s. It was pitched between the alto and tenor saxophones sounding in between an E-flat and B-flat soprano. It is extremely rare and few, if any, were produced.
