Why was guitar called guitar?

The word "guitar" comes from the Spanish word "guitarra," which in turn comes from the Arabic word "qitara." The Arabic word is thought to have come from the Greek word "kithara," which was a type of ancient Greek musical instrument.

The guitarra was a popular instrument in Spain and Portugal in the 15th and 16th centuries, and it was introduced to the rest of Europe by Spanish explorers and traders. The instrument quickly became popular throughout Europe, and it was known by various names, such as "guiterne," "gittern," and "guitar."

The word "guitar" eventually became the most common name for the instrument, and it is now used in most countries around the world.
