Are ukulele strings the same as guitar strings?

Ukulele and guitar strings are not the same. While both instruments are stringed, they have different string materials, tensions, and tunings. Although they are both played with four strings, the strings are different in terms of material, tension, and gauge.

Ukulele Strings

* Typically made of nylon or fluorocarbon

* Thinner and less dense than guitar strings

* Lower string tension than guitar strings

* Tuned to higher pitches than guitar strings (GCEA)

Guitar Strings

* Typically made of metal (steel, nickel-plated steel, bronze)

* Thicker and denser than ukulele strings

* Higher string tension than ukulele strings

* Tuned to lower pitches than ukulele strings (EADGBE)

The different materials, tensions, and tunings of ukulele and guitar strings contribute to the different sounds and playing styles of these two instruments.
