What does largo mean in music terms?

In music, "largo" is an indication of tempo that means "broad," "slow," or "majestic." It is one of the slowest tempo markings, slower than "lent" (slow) and "adag" (slowly).

Largo pieces should usually be performed quite slowly. They may even have long notes that are held or tied across measure lines. Sometimes largo sections of music feature instruments playing one melody against slower countermelodies.
