What is a reggae riff?

A reggae riff is a distinctive rhythmic or melodic pattern often used in reggae music.

These riffs use syncopation on offbeats (between regular strong beats).

Reggae rhythms typically utilize bass as one of the central and leading voices that drives and carries a melodic bassline for an extended period in addition to or instead of the traditional Western rhythmic guitar. This makes for the "riddim" in "riddim section.
