What is homophonic music?

Homophonic Music

Homophony, meaning having the same sound, refers to the main sound of one melody accompanied by harmony. Typically there are three components: a melody, accompaniment, and bass line. The melody tends to be the only discernible part, while the accompaniment and bass follow and support the main tune accordingly.

Many genres of music fall under this category, including pop, rock, jazz, folk, etc.
