What does ternary mean in music?

Ternary form, also known as ternary structure or three-part song form, is a musical composition consisting of three sections or movements—A–B–A.

The "A" section is the main melodic or thematic material, the "B" section is a contrasting section, and the "A" section returns with the original musical material.
