How did the Woodstock Festival get its name?

The Woodstock Festival was originally meant to be hosted in Wallkill, New York, not just outside the town of Woodstock. The name was initially chosen for this reason. When the site was changed to Bethel, New York, the organizers still liked the name and used it anyway, even though it was technically incorrect.
