How to Camp at Lake Travis Estates for South by Southwest

Located just west of the Austin metropolitan area in central Texas, Lake Travis Estates is a recreational area known for its golf courses, real-estate developments and natural resources. By staying at one of the many campgrounds in the Lake Travis area, you can avoid the hustle and bustle of Austin during the increasingly popular South by Southwest Music Festival.

Instructions

    • 1

Select the right campground in the Lake Travis Estates area for the level of amenities you need. Camping facilities in this area range from the downright primitive, where you will need to bring all your camping equipment with you, to RV resorts that offer many services and features that can allow your stay to be as pleasant and comfortable as possible.

    • 2

Reserve in advance for campgrounds in the Lake Travis Estates area. Since camping in the outlying areas of Austin during the South by Southwest Music Festival is becoming an increasingly popular way to avoid the crowds and traffic, spaces at local campgrounds and RV resorts fill up early.

    • 3

Balance your camping budget against the distance you want to be from the South by Southwest Festivals. Camping fees can be directly proportional to the proximity of the camp to downtown Austin, and you may be forced to pay much more in Lakeway or Jonestown, which are located at the eastern edge of Lake Travis, than you would in Spicewood, which is 15 miles further to the west, away from town.
