  1. How to Play the Hammond B3 Organ

    • 1

Power on the Hammond B3 organ by pressing down and holding the start button for 60 seconds. The button is on the top righthand side of the organ. Holding down the button allows the instrument to warm up. If the organ is not warmed up properly, the sound may be distorted.

Experiment with the sliding draw bar buttons above the top register keys of the organ. These buttons function as equalizers to control the amount of bass and treble. You will use these draw bar buttons to shape the sound that you want in the top register keys, the bottom register keys, as well as the bass pedals. Shaping the sound means that you are selecting the amount of bass and treble that you want to emit from the top and bottom register keys and bass pedals. Use the buttons at the far left end of the top and bottom register keys to select a sound that has been programmed into the instrument.

    • 3

Start playing the organ. Use the top and bottom register keys to blend two different sounds at one time or to switch between sounds.

    • 4

Adjust the volume while you are playing by using the big sound pedal above the bass pedals. Lifting the sound pedal with your right foot increases the volume. Pressing it downward with the ball of your right foot makes the sound softer. There also is a volume box on the back of the organ, at the bottom right-hand corner. You can adjust the volume box to control the overall loudness of the organ.
