How to Use a Peavey Guitar Tuner

Using a Peavey guitar tuner is a relatively easy prospect, but using any electronic tuner requires the guitar to be ear-tuned first. Tuners work by analyzing string frequency vibrations in Hertz (Hz). When a frequency is recognized, the tuner assigns a target note and indicates how much the vibration must be stabilized by the player. When a string is being tuned up or down, the string will reach any number of notes on its way, and the tuner can become confused. Always start off by tuning the guitar by ear, using the tuner's built-in note tone, then fine-tune using the LCD display.

Instructions

  1. Pre-Tuning

    • 1

Plug an electric guitar into the tuner with a standard guitar cord. If using an acoustic guitar, place the tuner on your lap or on a table close to the guitar's sound hole. The tuner's built-in microphone is on the front of the unit.

    • 2

Turn the tuner power on by pressing the "Power" switch.

    • 3

Press the "Note" button until it reads "E," and press the "Sound" button to hear the audible "E" note.

    • 4

Tune the guitar's low "E" sixth string until the string matches the tuner's "E" note tone.

    • 5

Proceed to pre-tune other strings by pressing the "Note" button to play the "A" note for the fifth string, "D" for the fourth string, "G" for the third string, "B" for the second string and high "E" for the first string. Adjust all strings to match their individual note pitches.

    Using the Tuner

    • 6

Press the "Sound" button to "Off." The tuner will switch to automatic tuning mode.

    • 7

Press the "Mode" button to choose between the LCD tuning display screen or the LED tuning lights.

    • 8

Play the low "E" string on the guitar. In LCD screen mode, the letter "E" will display. The arrow will go to the left if the note is too low (flat=b), to the right if the note is too high (sharp=#) or remain in the center if the note is in tune. If LCD light mode is chosen, the red LED to the left indicates a flat note, the red LED to the right indicates a sharp note and the green center LED indicates proper pitch.

    • 9

Turn the low "E" string tuning key to bring the note to pitch, which will be indicated by the centered LCD arrow or by the green center LED light.

    • 10

Repeat Steps 3 and 4 for subsequent strings. The tuner will recognize other notes automatically, display the note name and indicate any pitch correction needed.
