College Programs for the Music Business

Private and public universities across the country offer programs in music business. These programs typically focus on learning how to organize and promote concerts; manage bands and artists; and understand necessary legal information such as copyright law. Many offer internships and other opportunities in such places as Nashville and Los Angeles. Those who pursue a degree or certificate in music business often plan to work in the recording industry, the live music industry, or both.

According to the school's website, the music business/management program equips students with the requisite skills to succeed in the music industry. Berklee offers both degree and certificate programs in music business/management. The concentrations offered to Berklee students of music business include entertainment law, artist management, and music promoting. Degree programs take four years to complete, while diploma programs require two years. Proficiency on a musical instrument is a prerequisite for Berklee programs.

    New York University Steinhardt Music Business Program
