How to Search Past Music CD Reviews

Whether you are looking for a review to enhance a research paper, or you just want to read what people said about an album, you can find old CD reviews online. At times fans may post reviews on their websites, or you can search major publications' archives for past reviews. Your local library may also carry old editions of magazines that contain music CD reviews, but you must know what issue you are looking for with the review.

Instructions

    • 1

Visit the website of a major publication such as Rolling Stone, Spin or NME. Type the name of the album in the top search bar on the website. The review (if available) will appear at the top of the search results. For example search "Weezer and Blue Album."

Search online for reviews by using the title of an album. This will bring you the best results from different fan pages or major publications. Search for a term such as "The Strokes and "Angles" and review" to find reviews for The Strokes' "Angles".

    • 3

Visit your favorite band's website. Click a link that says "Media" or "Media Mentions" to access the area where bands will post any articles written about them. Click the link to the review, it may lead to an outside source such as a RollingStone.com link or it may be a page created by the band.

Do some light research to find out the release date of the album for which you wish to read the review. You can find this information on your band's website or inside the CD book. Go to your local library and look through the music magazines from the month prior to, during or after the CD release date. If there is a review available it is likely to have run in the magazine during that time.
