How to Move Up & Down on a Guitar Neck

To move up and down a guitar neck, you need to use a moveable chord. The guitar has marked positions up and down the neck on the face and on the side of the neck. Each dot, dash or inlay represents a key. By using the same chord form and sliding it up or down the neck, you can play in any key. It's best to start out with a basic movable bar or barre chord to learn the positions along the neck.

Lay your index finger across all six strings at the fifth fret. Place your ring finger on the fifth string at the seventh fret. Place your pinky on the fourth string at the seventh fret.
